The Heart & Science Behind Soul Paws

Soul Paws is a mobile, science-informed animal bodywork practice founded by Erin Alefounder, a multi-modal certified small animal bodywork practitioner with a background in education, anatomy-based assessment, and rehabilitation-focused care. Erin is committed to working alongside veterinary professionals to support animal comfort, mobility, and quality of life through non-invasive, complementary bodywork.

Erin’s approach is grounded in functional anatomy, biomechanics, fascia science, and nervous system regulation. Sessions are not protocol-driven or diagnostic in nature; instead, bodywork is tailored in real time based on postural patterns, gait observation, tissue response, and nervous system presentation. This allows for adaptive support that respects each animal’s medical history, stage of healing, and tolerance on the day of service.

Within a comprehensive bodywork session, Erin may integrate supportive techniques such as neurovascular release, myofascial release, Swedish and rehabilitative massage, craniosacral therapy, acupressure (TCM), manual lymphatic support, and gentle range-of-motion or movement-based techniques where appropriate. All work is non-forceful, non-diagnostic, and intended to complement — not replace — veterinary care.

Soul Paws frequently supports animals who are:

*recovering from orthopaedic or soft tissue surgery

*managing age-related mobility changes

*navigating chronic compensation patterns

*experiencing nervous system sensitivity or stress responses

*benefiting from preventative maintenance to reduce injury risk

Clear communication and ethical boundaries are central to the practice. Erin encourages veterinary oversight for medical conditions, medication management, imaging, and diagnosis, and is happy to coordinate care timing or modify bodywork approaches based on veterinary recommendations.

With a strong foundation in education and client communication, Erin also supports guardians in understanding their animal’s movement patterns, postural changes, and home-care considerations — helping improve compliance, reduce re-injury risk, and reinforce veterinary treatment plans.

Soul Paws currently serves mostly canine and some feline clients throughout Vancouver and the Lower Mainland, with equine services in development. The shared goal across all collaborations is simple and aligned: support the animal’s comfort, function, and resilience through informed, ethical, and complementary holistic care.

Every Soul Paws session is guided by a thorough understanding of biomechanics, fascia, circulation, and nervous system regulation — and grounded in the reality that no two animals, bodies, or life histories are the same. Erin does not work from a preset routine. Instead, she integrates complementary techniques such as neurovascular release, myofascial and rehabilitative massage, craniosacral therapy, acupressure, movement-based support, and manual lymphatic techniques as appropriate, always adapting to what the animal’s body and nervous system are communicating in that moment.

At the core of Soul Paws is a strong commitment to prevention, rehabilitation, and informed guardianship. Many physical and behavioural challenges develop quietly over time through compensation, stress, or unresolved tension. By supporting mobility, comfort, and regulation early — and by working collaboratively alongside veterinary care — Erin helps guardians better understand their animals and make proactive choices for long-term wellbeing.
